Syed Mahmood Kazmi is a Global Youth and Human Rights Activist advocating for the Women Rights, Gender Equality, Education and Peace & Security. He is currently serving as Global Youth Ambassador at A World at School and based in New York, United States. He is an active member of the UN Women‘s task force on Youth Development & Gender Equality. He is also a member of Policy & Strategic Group of World We Want. Mr. Kazmi was born in Pakistan administered Azad Kashmir. He holds a Masters Degree in Sociology and Masters of Advanced Degree in Peace and Conflict Transformation from University of Basel in Switzerland.

In 2005, he was the victim of devestating earthquake in Pakistan which killed his family members and destroyed his house along with more than 70,000 people died. He was injured while jumping from the shaking school building. He was inspired by the Red Cross & Red Crescent Missions from all over the world who came to help. He joined the International Red Cross & started helping the affected communities. He has served the Pakistan Red Crescent & IFRC movement since 2005.

In 2009, he survived the horrific suicide attack in his mosque in the capital of Pakistan administered Kashmir which killed 7 people and injured 65 people. He started to educate the youth about peace and non-violence and their roles in building the peaceful and prosperous communities. In 2011, He was part of the United Nations & IFRC’s Global Volunteers Conference in Budapest Hungary and contributed to the Volunteering for Sustainable Future report. In 2015, He stood with Malala Yousafzai and 193 youth leaders from all over the world during the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals summit at the UNGA. He played an instrumental role in drafting the International Youth Summit in Hiroshima Japan.

Mr. Kazmi has met the Vice President of the United States Mr.  Joe Biden at the United Nations in 2015 and shared his vision for countering the violent extremism and the role of Youth. VP Biden appreciated him and complimented, “Mr Kazmi, if you ever became the Secretary General of the United Nations, don’t forget me. My name is Joe Biden.”

He has experience of working with the United Nations, International Organization for Migration, International Federation of Red Cross Red Crescent Societies, Pakistan Red Crescent, UN Women, UN Volunteers, He For She, Youth Assembly at United Nations, Youth Parliaments, Friendship Ambassadors Foundation etc.

He is also a writer/blogger and his posts have been published at Challenge FutureItalian First Foreign Policy Magazine, The Post InternazionaleThe News InternationalA Safe World for Women Campaign on many Youth Issues, Women Empowerment, Human Rights, Child Labor and Peace Initiatives.

He firmly believes in the United Nations Principles and Sustainable Development Goals and emphasized the importance of our collectives roles & responsibilities to achieve the SDGs.
